Bridge Works
  • - The base stone of a brand new London Bridge Works was set in 1825 by the Lord Mayor, who descended 4 5 feet beneath the Thames in a cofferdam in order to do so. George IV had refused the chance of placing the stone because of 'the injury he might sustain in his health by descending to such a depth surrounded by such an element'.The oldest list of houses within the bridge moves out of 1201, during the period of its own construction.
